
Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is strongly linked to smoking and remains one of the leading causes of cancer death in Algeria.
Symptômes
• Persistent or worsening cough, or a chronic cough that changes character • Coughing up blood (hemoptysis) • Chest pain, shortness of breath • Persistent hoarseness • Recurrent bronchitis or pneumonia • Unexplained weight loss, fatigue
Facteurs de risque
• Active smoking (main cause) and secondhand smoke • Occupational exposure: asbestos, radon, chemicals • Air pollution • Personal or family history of lung disease • Previous chest radiotherapy
Prévention
• Do not smoke, or quit smoking as early as possible • Avoid exposure to secondhand smoke • Reduce occupational and environmental exposure (ventilate homes) • Maintain a balanced diet and regular physical activity
Dépistage
• No systematic population-wide screening in Algeria • Low-dose CT scan may be considered for heavy smokers over 50, on medical advice • See a doctor promptly for persistent respiratory symptoms
Traitement
• Surgery for localized cancers • Radiotherapy, alone or combined with other treatments • Chemotherapy depending on type and stage • Targeted therapy and immunotherapy for certain tumor profiles • Supportive care and pain management
